The international competition was held in Vienna University of Economics and Business under the patronage of the International Bar Association (IBA) and Vienna International Arbitration Center (VIAC), and co-organized by the European Law Students Association (ELSA). "The aim of this international competition is to educate students of all disciplines in the art of negotiation and consensual dispute resolution. Of course we are very pleased that this unique on European scale competition is held in Vienna and that we have the opportunity to establish Vienna as the international center of conflict resolution", said Nicholas Pitkowitz, Partner at Graf & Pitkowitz and one of the initiators of this competition, which takes place for the first time this year.

The CDRC is inspired by and based on the Willem C. Vis Moot Competition, the biggest arbitration competition worldwide. The same case is being discussed and within the framework of mediation multiple solutions are found. Dr. Pitkowitz is excited about the success: "Already in the first year of the competition we had over twice as many interested teams as places, thus, unfortunately, we had to reject some of them. Of course we are more than happy the interest is so great, in particular because it comes from the world´s best universities and mediators. Next year we will therefore certainly admit more than 16 teams."

"It has been a pleasure to engage in the CDRC Vienna and we are especially pleased to be able to host the evening event next Friday. Apart from the legal skills, we also wish to support the benefits of the international networking of future experts in the field of legal mediation and negotiation", said Nicholas Pitkowitz, himself an arbitration law expert and internationally active mediator. Together with Pitkowitz, two more representatives of the law firm Graf & Pitkowitz are active as mediators and part of the organizing committee of the 2015 Vienna CDRC: Elisabeth Vanas Metzler and Tobias Bisak.
